Alphonse Pichard House, circa 1912 One of the most gratifying experiences during my practice of law has been restoring and beautifying my law office, located in the historic Alphonse Pichard House. This late, “Queen Anne” Victorian home was built in 1912 as the homestead of builder and developer, Alphonse Pichard. He and his brother were true founding fathers in the early history of Tallahassee, Florida. Their father, Hipolyte Pichard, came to this country from France and his two talented sons joined efforts to build many homes and public buildings in Tallahassee starting in the early 1900's. Many of these homes and buildings still stand today.

I purchased the Pichard House in 2001, with hopes of restoring its special period features and making it a friendly, family oriented law office. The home has been on the National Register of Historic Places for several years. In 2002, I was the proud recipient of the Tallahassee/Leon County Historic Preservation Award for Outstanding Achievement in Commercial Rehabilitation for my restoration efforts.

One day, three gentlemen visited with me while at the Pichard office. The Pichard brothers, children of Alphonse: Marion, Kenneth and David, came by to see their childhood home in its improved state. Marion and Kenneth were born in a room now used as an attorney’s office. They were pleased with the improvements, but seemed more gratified to see their childhood home.
